Getting to know your art teacher:
This is my thirteenth year teaching Visual Arts. For my first five years I taught art at Northwest Elementary School. This is my eighth year at Ridgewood Elementary School, home of the sharks. I graduated from East Carolina University in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy and a minor in Art. As a child art was always my favorite subject but I never saw myself as a teacher because most of my family is in the teaching profession. Both of my parents are teachers, my brother teaches fourth grade, my two aunts are also teachers and most of my cousins are teachers; even my grandmother was a teacher. I made a promise to myself when I was very young that I would never teach, well, look at me now. I can’t imagine my life without children and art in it every day. Choosing to teach was one of the best decisions that I have made.
The children are the reason why I teach. If they weren't here I would be out of a job. My mission is to bring creativity, color, technology, collaboration, leadership skills, critical thinking skills, diversity and global awareness to each and every one of my students. I'm so excited for my students to experience all of the exciting projects and contests that I have prepared for them.
I love being a parent and raising my nine year old son Colton! We love to explore the outdoors and go on many adventures together through out North Carolina. Seeing him get excited about nature and learning is a huge thrill for me. We also love reading in my family. Both my son and I share a love of reading. I love sharing my knowledge and love for art with my son, like my mother did for me while I was growing up.
